A Comprehensive Guide to Using a Teleprompter for Professional-Looking Videos

As a content creator, you know that delivering a great video requires a lot of preparation. Whether you're shooting a vlog, a tutorial, or a presentation, using a teleprompter can help you deliver your message clearly and confidently.

However, using a teleprompter can be intimidating, especially if you've never used one before. Here are our top tips on how to overcome these fears and harness the benefits a teleprompter can bring.

1: Practice, practice, practice

As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect. This is also true for using a teleprompter. It's smart to familiarise yourself with the software and hardware before you start recording so that you avoid any hiccups. You can also practice reading your script while looking directly into the camera so that you get used to doing it and it feels more natural.

2: Change the speed to suit your needs

Not everyone can read at the same speed, and if your teleprompter is too fast it's easy to get muddled and trip over words. Make sure that you adjust the speed of the text so that it's easy for you to read. A good rule of thumb is to set the speed to around 150 words per minute.

3: Adjust the font and size

Similarly, you need to ensure that the font is legible and easy to read. We recommend using a font like Arial or Helvetica. Once the font is chosen, adjust the size of the text so that it's large enough for you to read comfortably from a distance.

4: Position the teleprompter correctly

The teleprompter should be positioned at eye level so that you can read the text while looking directly into the camera. This helps ensure that you can read it easily and still maintain that all-important connection with the camera.

5: Don't worry about body language

Our quirks and gestures are part of what makes us unique, so don't worry about them! You can even use hand gestures and facial expressions to help convey your message while reading from a teleprompter. People love personality, so acting authentically will go far in keeping your viewers engaged and interested.

6: Remember to take breaks

A video project is a sprint, not a marathon - there's no need to do it all in one sitting! If you're recording a long video, be sure to schedule in a break or two. Generally, it's recommended to take breaks every 20-30 minutes to rest your eyes and stretch your legs. A break away from the camera will help you stay alert and focused for when you resume filming.

Build your confidence

The biggest perk of using a teleprompter is that it can help you deliver your message clearly and professionally. By using these tips, you can quickly integrate this technology into your recording sessions, creating high-quality content that makes the right impact.
